Yeh Hay DUBAI Meri Jaan!

Yeh Hay DUBAI Meri Jaan!

I do not understand why people consider Dubai as a complete package. Just to find out what the fuss was, this time I chose Dubai as my destination for vacations.

Dubai turned out to be a major disappointment, only because of the fact that I am already living in a gulf country, which is far more organized and well established. The comparison was heart breaking. However, for people who are not aware of the gulf culture may find Dubai extremely amusing.

United Arab Emirates or UAE mainly consist of several small states having different governments and different infrastructures. Dubai is the most prominent and the most well made and organized state. The roads are lovely, the housing system in proper, traffic is maintained, proper footpaths, and the department of sanitation is appraisable as the cleanliness is admirable. The malls are beautiful and huge having several types of entertainments like Rides, Games, and Concerts etc…

Dubai is an entertainment only if the tourists are having huge budgets or belonging from Europe or America (as they mainly take advantage of conversion of money) or by Arab Sheikhs. People belonging to Asian countries believe in savings and they do not opt for lavish tours and expensive rides.

Dubai's most prominent feature is Sheikh Zayed Road, a road where the buildings are so tall that your neck will start hurting if you look for long, These days the tallest building is BURJ DUBAI, a building consisting of more then 100 floors, It hasn't finished yet but it sure is a beauty.

BURJ AL ARAB, the world's seven star hotel and the landmark of Dubai, has the most interesting infrastructure as the exterior of the building is made of a fabric. The lightening is so attractively done that it catches the eye of any person passing by. The hotel could be enjoyed by passing through it, and taking a tour costs around 250 dirham.

PALM ISLANDS are artificial pieces of land carved in water; usually it is visible only through the aircrafts as no one is allowed to enter accept the residence.

SKI DUBAI is an unbelievable miracle situated in the Mall of Emirates, the concept of a snow park and ice skiing in a desert where temperatures go above 50 Degrees is venerable. It costs around 80dhs for adults and 75 for children under 13, the suit and shoes including socks are provided, but gloves are available at the price of 10 to 50dhs.

It is fun to enjoy temperatures reaching -3degrees in a country where Air Conditioner is considered as a blessing. It gets difficult to stay in the park for more then 2 hours because soon fingers start getting numb because of the extreme cold. Professional Photographers are available in the park, and each picture costs 50dhs, so better to take personal camera inside the park.

DESERT SAFARI is an adventure, driving in desert in a four-wheeler or sliding down with ski blades is fun and a lot of enjoyment but due to extreme temperatures usually the months of winters are preferred.

WILD WADI, another miracle in the desert where water is considered as precious. It is a water park where every drop is drinkable and the rides are breathtaking and extreme. It is 80-100dhs entry fees for children and adults.

SHOPPING is the biggest attraction for the tourists coming from all around the world, every kind of brand is available of any sort of commodity. No matter it is Gold, Silver, clothing item, electronics, perfumes, watches or food, every thing is present. Branded perfumes and watches are cheap in Lulu hypermarket; Food items are cheap in Carre Four. Souk Naif is a perfect place to shop for unbranded clothing items.
Branded items are only affordable on sales.

Dubai is an investment hub, money is pouring in and real estate is on the rise but the speculations are that in near future the property prices will land as the financial market all around the world is having a downfall. Pakistani real estate dealers like Chapal's, Memon's, and Rufi's etc, are making remarkable efforts by providing proper residential and housing schemes all around the UAE.

People prefer having a career and a job in the UAE because of high salary, facilities and no income tax so that the percentage of savings is high, but the truth is the expenses are skyrocketing and rents are killing. One bedroom studio apartment in the beginning of Dubai where the roads are not even properly made costs around 5000dhs every month.

Cars are easily available on affordable installments but liter petrol costs 4 or more dhs. So driving a four-wheeler can be costly. Private Hospitals are milking machines, and Education is very expensive. Overall, 10,000dhs is a minimum amount required by a family to survive in Dubai.

Dubai is fun when earnings are upto the mark. Just to save rent money people prefer staying in Sharjah or in Ajman, where the rents are comparatively cheap, but the traffic makes life miserable. In rush hour, it takes 2 to 4 hours to reach Dubai from Sharjah or Ajman. Internally the traffic of Dubai is smooth.

Sharjah is just like Defence area of Karachi, proper roads, several shops and people in Shalwar qameez!!!
Sharjah is full of expatriates and is overly crowded. The traffic is tiring, the roads are not that well developed, as Dubai, but the best part is the rents are 30-40% lower then Dubai.

Sharjah also has several tall buildings and its own City Centre. Best place to shop in Sharjah is ASWAQ AL HADAYA or Gift Market. This shop has all things ranging from 1 to 5dhs. It is an excellent place to shop for any thing as the items are within the price range. All imaginable items are available in this store and the quality of things is fine.

Last but not the least comes Ajman, a state whose stars are shining just because of Dubai. The place is disorganized and still under construction. The best part of Ajman is that people can buy property on their name. This is why Ajman is gradually being populateSd and several expatriates prefer buying properties in Ajman as prices are low and property is on their name so it is a fair bargain. Ajman also has its own City Centre and several other malls but still it needs time to develop.

Visiting the UAE in the summer will not be very amusing as the temperatures are sour. Language is not a problem as people speaking Arabic are less then people speaking Urdu or English or Malayalam.
